This lesson focuses on Dharker’s ‘Tissue’ by starting first with a look at metaphysical poetry. Students explore how a compass is like love (through Donne’s ‘A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning’). It discusses how tissue can be like life, which leads into how power is like tissue paper, before reading the poem. Whilst a very simple structure, this lesson should help your students get into the correct frame of mind for this tricky poem.
